The Artwork of SoleOne

SoleOne is a 20 year old stencil artist based out of the Netherlands. I really like the wit of his simple monotone pieces. But what really impressed me was how good he is technically on his halftone pieces. To think that he had to sit and hand cut 4000 individual squares to make the stencil for the piece makes my hands ache.

Weekends in Detroit #2

wkndindet

This weekend was a good balance of fun and work for Dennis and I. On Friday, we stopped for dinner at Traffic Jam & Snug. (Thanks to Becks Davis of Detroit Moxie for the excellent suggestion.) We have a strange newfound obsession with fried pickles. I took a picture of them, but I don’t know, I just think food pictures are gross unless you’re a really good photographer. Do you agree, or is that just me?

On to the grand opening of City Bird. That place blew us away. And it was packed! We want to go back there when it’s not so crowded. Not only did they have a ton of cute things, but their displays were genius.

San Francisco Ephemera

Ephemera Part 2! As a follow up to my Portland post, here are a few flat things I picked up in San Francisco.

Postcard from Candystore Collective, where Dennis bought
a ridiculous t-shirt with a deer playing an accordion.
I have never seen him so pleased with himself. I really loved this place, too.

We saw Albert Reyes’s show at White Walls.
He used old book covers as his canvas for a lot of his artwork.

A postcard for the next show at White Walls, The Stencil Show.
Excited to see new stuff from Tes One.

sfeph3

I had never heard of Charmaine Olivia before, but it looks like her stuff is gorgeous.

sfeph5

And finally, these last two aren’t actually the same size, but I had to put them next to each other.
The left one is a collage by Dan David “Netherland” van Alphen.
The right one is a painting by Blaine Fontana.
Weird coincidence? Or did one influence the other?

Luke Dolkas Art & Framing

While in Portland this last week we had the pleasure of meeting Luke Dolkas at his gallery/framing shop. What initailly had brought us to the gallery was his current consisting of work by Logan Hicks, Tristan Eaton, DFace, Flying Fortress, Mear One, The London Police, amongst others. All of the work was stunning, especially the pieces by DFace, Logan Hicks, and Tristan Eaton.
